Audinni Bespoke AV Furniture Project - Autumn 2013.

Five metre bespoke fitted living room home cinema AV cabinet with matching floating shelves in a custom powder blue paint finish.

CLIENT BRIEF:

The client was undertaking an extensive program of renovation to a significant home-counties country property. The main house featured a substantial living room, and the clients wanted a fitted AV cabinet at one end of the room to house the AV peripherals including a sub-woofer, Blu-ray, dedicated AV power amp, etc.

The finish on the unit needed to match the Little Greene paint colour scheme on the walls, and also complement the existing decor. Special attention needed to be made to successfully junction with the existing decorative skirting boards. The client also specified sub-unit floor level lighting and matching 'thin profile' floating shelves.

The client approached Audinni to advise and quote on the project having previously retained us on two other AV furniture projects, including a previous large fitted AV cabinet in another property.

Audinni RESPONSE:

"It's always nice when a client gets back in touch to quote for another job. Naturally, it's a reassuring testament to our skill and integrity that we see a lot of repeat business, but the best part of a returning client is hearing how both the furniture and the client are getting on."

"In this case, the client had taken on the complete renovation of a large home-counties farmhouse, built in the Charles Voysey / Arts & Crafts style. The main building sits in stunning grounds complete with outbuildings and landscaped gardens. The house featured a stunning large living room that looked out over the terrace and grounds. It was in this room that the client asked us to quote for a long fitted AV cabinet at one end of the room."

"The AV install had been specified and delivered by a local supplier/contractor. The clients had a clear vision for how the cabinet would look, specifying a fitted five metre cabinet to incoporate the AV peripherals and sub-woofer. During the design process, we produced a series of CAD drawings and 3D renders, and provided a quote for the manufacture and fitting of the both the fitted unit and the floating shelves."

PROJECT SPECIFICS:

The overdesign process was relatively straightforward. Cable management and the provision of adequate ventilation for the AV install were the key AV components, along with designing in a neutrally acoustic cloth compartment for the front-firing sub-woofer. The postioning of the sub-woofer compartment was a matter of some debate, before th eclient settled on the extremities of the cabinet as opposed to the centre.

In terms of the aesthetic furniture elements, there was an in-depth discussion regarding various finishes, and we produced renders in Wenge [to match the floor], with a back-board piece TV mount, and in Black Oak [to match the 5:1 surround speakers]. Ultimately, the right decision was made, as the finished cabinet blends in perfectly with the Little Greene paint colour on the walls, and with the overall decorative theme of the room.

As with all large fitted units, the accuracy of the initial survey is vital to the end result, and we visited the house twice to take an array of measurements prior to the CAD/design stage. The room featured beautiful decorative skirtings which needed to be seamlessly matched in.

The cabinet took 11 weeks to complete and install, and we re-visited the clients on a number of occasions during and after the install.
