"Simon & his team did an amazing job. We wanted a modern home cinema and listening room but our house is a listed building with period decor, so it was essential that the room matched the rest of the house. Simon suggested designing a traditional study room with the AV equipment and storage hidden behind it. He produced a full design detailing everything from the fitted cabinets to the chesterfield chairs and also coordinated all the elements needed to deliver the plan. From beginning to end the whole process was professional and efficient and the installation ran like clockwork,  To say we were pleased with the results is an understatement. The quality of the final work is simply breathtaking."

The client wanted to install a media room in a substantial Grade II listed house, with both home cinema capabilities and a hi-fi quality listening experience. However, their main priority was to ensure that the room complemented the rest of the house. The house had undergone a significant restoration and the interior furnishings had been completed to the highest standard in a traditional 'period' style.

The client approached Audinni with a brief to develop a design that would solve the dilemma of a modern media room in a traditional period style house.

"As soon as I saw the room and how the rest of the house had been restored, I knew that we had to come up with a design that would work within the context of the remainder of the house. In terms of AV requirements, the media room wasn't going to present any major difficulties. The key was always going to be how to integrate the AV elements within the design of the room."

"I suggested building a traditional study in a Regency style. The design would work both as a working study with real bookcases, and more importantly as a facade to the AV components. The client liked the outline idea and commissoined us to proceed with a design."

With a project like this, it was essential to design every last detail. We surveyed the room, and began to build a number of CAD drawings and 3D renders. The AV peripherals were to be stored in open backed modular cabinets behind brass grille doors. The cabinets were designed with extra-ventilation and access/cable management in mind. We specified invisible 'in-wall' speakers with an acoustically neutral sub-woofer enclosure. The projector screen housing was enclosed in the ceiling. The projector itself was to be housed in a free-standing traditional leathe rupholstered footstool.

The room was a blank canvas at this stage, and we planned lighting and electrical first and second fixes with our partner sub-contractors. The AV elements were to be specified, supplied and installed by a dedicated partner installation company. [We liaised with the AV installer on the clients behalf.] We specified the design and manufacture / installation of the carpets, soft furnishings and upholstry. [The client had asked for Chesterfield chairs, which we also specified for manufacture.]

In terms of the furniture design and installation of the main study units, this was a chance to show off our traditional cabinetry expertise. The Regency style design called for a number of details such as dentil cornices, capitals, mouldings and fluting. The majority of the study was built in solid mahogany, with the AV performing elements housed in mahogany real-wood veneered sections. [Solid timbers are unreliable in an AV environment.] Solid brass butt hinges and grilles completed the design.

The study took 22 weeks from beginning [initial consultaion] to end. The installation of both the AV equipment and the furniture units took place in one week. We ran the entire project for the client, liaising with all partner suppliers and tradesmen.
